Book Arts: Coptic Binding with Jerry Bedor Phillips on Saturday May 31st

Join Buchanan Arts Center and bookbinder Jerry Bedor Phillips for a one-day Coptic binding workshop! In this 3-hour session, you will learn to prepare book cover; turn single sheets of paper into signatures of pages; and sew them together with a needle and thread to create a journal/sketchbook using one of the oldest techniques in bookbinding!
Phillips designed this workshop for all skill levels. It serves as an introduction for the book curious and a refresher course for those looking to rekindle that inner bookbinding spark.
The recommended ages are sixteen and up.
Instructor Bio:
Jerry Bedor Phillips is an artist living and creating in Nashville, Tennessee. His bookbinding experience includes workshops and classes with artists Nicole Hand and Beth Linn. He has worked as a book repair technician with conservator Ana Lyra in the Special Collections area of the Cullum Davis Library at Bradley University. He has led bookbinding workshops with Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts (Gatlinburg, Tn), the 2021 Tennessee Art Educators Association Middle Tennessee Fall Professional Development Conference, Buchanan Arts Center (Nashville, Tn), and the Frist Art Museum Teen ArtLab (Nashville, Tn).
